Classic Cow Overview
Our Classic Cow programs offer middle and high school-aged students the opportunity to explore our island home, camp, sea kayak, explore our challenge course, and learn healthy living skills that facilitate the growth of mind, body and spirit. This week-long overnight program is offered to:
- Cow Islanders (11-13 years old)
- Cow Journeys (13-16 years old)
- Boy’s and Girl’s Leadership Weeks (13-16 years old)
Classic Cow activities are aimed at broadening knowledge of the marine environment, encouraging healthy risk-taking, and developing students’ capacity to act as leaders both within their peer groups and their communities.
With a guide to student ratio of 1:7, students will safely paddle the waters of Casco Bay, build confidence, make new friends, and enjoy the Maine outdoors. Rippleffect guide staff are Wilderness First Responder certified and trained sea kayak guides. We use an allied-based leadership approach to conflict resolution and education, involving the students in decision-making processes and teaching responsibility.
Rippleffect will provide transportation from downtown Portland, all food, and all necessary sea kayaking and camping equipment.
A comprehensive gear list will be provided upon registration.
Each Classic Cow session is from Monday-Friday each week. Students should be dropped off at 7:30am on Monday and picked up at 5:00pm on Friday at the Casco Bay Lines ferry terminal on the Maine State Pier.
